Autograph, Beschreibung der Testudo sulcata

Rückseite von Blatt 26 des Klebebandes "Joa. Dav. Schöpf. Schildkröten. Tom II". Die ohne Abbildung gegebene Beschreibung der Testudo sulcata vermutl. nach: John Frederick Miller, Various subjects of Natural History, wherein are delinated birds, animals and many curious plants [...] A series of 43 plates, with descriptive letter-press, London 1776-82, Tab. XXVI. Die ebenfalls ohne Abbildung gegebene Beschreibung der Testudo cinera stammt aus: Peter Brown, New illustrations of zoology, containing fifty coloured plates of new, curious, and non­descript birds, with a few quadrupeds, reptiles, and insects. Together with a short and scientific description of the same, London 1776, Pl. XLVIII, in Schoepfs Monographie in deutscher Übersetzung zitiert, vgl. Schoepf 1791-1801, S. 21: "Die Figur zeiget die Grösse des Thiers; an den Vorder- und Hinterfüßen sind fünf, mit eben so vielen Nägeln bewaffnete, Finger. Die Farbe ist aschgrau. Die Schaale ist am Rande umher ganz, und mit weißen Streifen zierlich bemahlt. Sie befindet sich im Cabinet des Herrn Richard Green, Apother zu Litchfield. Ihr Vaterland ist unbekannt." Abb.
